Description
INKtense pencils as the name suggests has very high concentration pigment so when applied the colours can range from soft and pastel to very strong and vivid and intense. Other watercolour pencils do not give the same intensity of colour especially on fabric. They are best used on unwashed fabric. Areas can be lightly coloured and then the pigment is activated by a wet brush, to move and blend the colours together. Colouring an area does not have to be completely filled in, there is so much pigment, even a small amount of colouring will fill an area once wet. Most people find using a pencil the easiest of colour application. For fabric artists, the best news is that once the colours are activated with water, allowed dry and then ironed, the colour is permanent. Based on the information from the Derwent the manufacturers and my own experience, there is no need for messing around with mediums and Aloe gel and other setting agents. You can colour an area and then add additional colours as desired. After colouring, applying water with a brush, activates the colours and they sink into the fibres to make your colours pop.
Great for controlled watercolour painting, for underpainting a thread painting project, for “painting” a design for your hand embroidery, to change the colour of an applique fabric, for fine details when painting with other dyes on fabric, or for colouring and painting on paper of course.
They are INTENSELY wonderful!
